The Hoff on Not Being Hassled and His Ironic Fans
David Hasselhoff has a deliciously fun role on this season of Sons of Anarchy. He plays a porn producer. Apparently he gets to yell “big cock” a lot. He loves everything about this part.
We talked with the former Baywatch star about work, life, and the difficulties of simultaneously being David Hasselhoff and The Hoff.
GQ: How do you deal with the fact that a lot of people seem to love “the Hoff” ironically?
David Hasselhoff: The key is the “a lot of people seem to love the Hoff” part, and that’s all I need. I don’t care why they love me, as long as they love me. I think people respect me because they feel like—I’m kind of like Christmas. I come back every year. You can’t get rid of me. I just keep coming back.
GQ: Is there a downside to it?
David Hasselhoff: Well the Hoff sometimes keeps David Hasselhoff out of work. The Hoff is working all the time. Hasselhoff’s having a hard time getting back on television as a serious actor.
